Season Three

A third season was confirmed in May 2013. After the Persona 4 remake was released, the Anime developers stated that they were looking into "exciting possibilities to continue the Persona 4 phenomenon". There was a lot of speculation about the story of the third season, and it was assumed to be a remake of the first season with new additional scenes from Persona 4: Golden. In December 2013, it was formally announced that the third season would take place during the first as well as the second and enhance the Persona universe with additional storylines that were already featured in Persona 4: Golden. Still, the third season won't be a retelling of the events that have happened, but add additional side stories that weren't told during the original airing of the first two seasons.

The third season premiered on July 10, and was met with mixed reception. A lot of reviews found the episodes to feel rushed, with weak writing. The viewership numbers dropped as well.

Season 4 and future

On September 25, 2014, Jun Kumagai announced his departure from the Persona 4 Anime after lengthy talks about a continuation.

In early December 2014, it was announced that a fourth season of the PERSONA anime will air. It will serve as a direct sequel to the second season. Originally set to premiere in summer 2015, its airing was postponed on several occasions in order to give the writers more time to work on it. It eventually started airing on October 10, 2016. The season was met with positive reception. The mid-season finale, "Crimson Snow", was critically acclaimed.
